As we kick off a new year, it’s the perfect time to establish some healthier business habits! One of these could be learning how to delegate tasks more effectively to your virtual assistant (we call them Wranglers 🙂). Effective delegation can help you manage your time better, reduce stress, and focus more on the things that help your business grow.
Here are 5 steps on how you can build a stronger partnership with your Wrangler throughout the new year:
1. Identify Tasks for Delegation
Start by making a list of tasks that consume a lot of your time but don’t necessarily require your personal touch. These might include scheduling appointments, managing emails, or updating your social media accounts. Once you’ve identified these tasks, pass them on to your Wrangler.

2. Clear Communication is Key
When delegating tasks, clear communication is crucial. Make sure your Wrangler understands exactly what you need from them. This includes providing detailed instructions/operating procedures, deadlines, and/or examples of previous work. You may even want to record some walkthroughs using programs like Loom or Zoom Recordings (this can be a major timesaver as you record what you were already going to be doing anyway!) Remember, your VA isn’t a mind reader. The more information you provide, the better they can assist you, and the more time saved in the end!
3. Trust and Let Go
Once you’ve delegated a task and it feels like you’re both on the same page, trust your Wrangler to handle it. It might be tempting to micromanage, but try to resist the urge and give them the space to do their job. You’ll find that this not only frees up your time, but also allows your Wrangler to grow and become more efficient over time. Bonus:Â your collaboration might even yield results that are better than what you would have come up with alone!
4. Regular Check-ins
While it’s important to trust your Wrangler, regular check-ins are highly recommended. This ensures that everything is going smoothly and provides an opportunity for feedback. We find that video calls are often the most efficient way to check-in, but emails and phone calls work, too! Constructive criticism can help your Wrangler learn your style and better meet your expectations. It also offers opportunities to answer any questions or course correct and make adjustments along the way.
5. Celebrate Successes
Lastly, remember to celebrate successes. When your Wrangler does a great job, let them know! A simple thank you can go a long way in boosting morale and motivation.
Delegating to your Wrangler can be a game-changer in managing your workload and reducing stress when it comes to your business. By establishing healthy delegation habits early on, you can make the most out of your Wrangler partnership and build on a solid foundation. Here’s to a productive and stress-free new year!
